Take Action, Get Involved, End Child Marriage
“As a child marriage survivor, I know first-hand that the time for legislative reform is now.”
Students Against Child Marriage is building a nationwide movement to end underage marriage by putting the incredible organizing power of America’s students to work.
Right now, 46 states have outdated youth marriage laws that openly enable the legalized abuse of countless young girls. Historically, legislators have perceived child marriage as a low priority issue, but this isn’t the time for stalling—it’s life or death for over 75,000 American children. Very few members of the public are even aware of the underage marriage crisis occurring in their own backyard, and that’s what we are committed to changing.
We’re Making American Child Marriage a Household Concern.
Between our dozens of chapters and hundreds of student volunteers, Students Against Child Marriage will employ the time-tested grassroots tactics of letter writing, phone banking, and petition signing to show lawmakers the overwhelming support that students, allies, and impassioned advocates have generated in the fight against underage marriage.
But as important as it is to take immediate action against child marriage, we can’t mobilize yet. Over the next several weeks, we’re reaching out to lawmakers, staffers, and stakeholders who’ve both progressed legislation to end underage marriage and held progress back. By beginning reform operations in each state of our 10 State Strategic Plan, we will identify the sources of delay behind child marriage gridlock and determine what needs to be done to stimulate action.
Until then, sign up for our Action List to join the fight and immediately find out when it’s time to act.
